Why Use a Chinese AI Model When Doing Business in East Asia

The AI landscape sits at a crossroads, with Chinese and open-source models offering highly capable and cost-effective alternatives to Western giants. But does the geography of a Large Language Model actually matter? Our latest article dives into this question, inspired by Hunter Trace's book The Why Behind Things, to see if a model's cultural background leaves a fingerprint on how it perceives the world.
Through experiments rooted in psychologist Richard Nisbett's work, we tested whether AI models exhibit Western object-focused thinking or Eastern relationship-based reasoning. The results highlight that a model's origin might indeed shape its understanding of reality.
